Massage at Cosmo Troy
Corporate campuses line Big Beaver Road, so lunchtime and after-work sessions suit clients who sit at a desk all day. I-75 also brings clients in from Rochester, Birmingham and Royal Oak.
You work behind floor-to-ceiling walls and a solid door, in a quiet hallway of private suites, not a busy spa.

What a massage suite at Cosmo includes
Every suite is a private, lockable treatment room with floor-to-ceiling walls and a solid door, so you can run a quiet session from start to finish.
- A massage table, with room to walk all the way around it
- A sink in the room, so you can wash up between clients without leaving
- Dimmable lights: low for a session, bright for cleanup
- A design package with a full-length mirror, millwork, a workstation and a luxury light fixture
- Utilities, Wi-Fi and commercial-grade washers and dryers on site for sheets and towels
- 24/7 keypad access, with exterior and doorway security cameras
- No extra charge to share your suite with another licensed professional
Massage work that suits a private suite
Massage depends on quiet more than almost any other service. A room with its own walls and door lets a client settle in, and lets you work without a spa’s front desk, music or foot traffic on the other side of a curtain.
You choose your modalities, session lengths and pricing, whether that is Swedish, deep tissue, sports, prenatal, myofascial or a mix. Walls can be soundproofed and upgraded suites are available, so ask about both on your tour.
Laundry on site matters more for massage than for most specialties. Every session uses fresh sheets and towels, and washing them in the building saves a service bill and a trip.
Licensing for massage therapists in Michigan
You need a Michigan massage therapist license from LARA. It takes 625 hours of approved training, a passing score on the MBLEx, a criminal background check and human trafficking training.
Michigan licenses the therapist, not the room, so your suite does not need a separate establishment license, and cities and townships cannot add their own massage therapist license on top of the state one. Confirm the current rules with LARA before you open.
Building a massage practice that refills itself
- Rebook before the client gets off the table. A client on a monthly or every-other-week rhythm is the core of a full massage book.
- Offer packages or memberships for regulars. In your own suite you set the terms and keep 100% of your session and retail revenue.
- Leave room in your week for recovery. Many therapists cap their daily sessions so their own body lasts, and setting your own schedule makes that possible.
- Ask for a review after a first session, and give clients a reason to send a friend.
